Mohamed Beg ben Fattah Beg ben Mohamed Pasha Jaff

 

 

 

 

     Born in 1903 in Sherwana area, Mohamed Beg was a prominent distinguished person capable of speaking Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish, and Farsi. He was chosen a member of the Council of Establishment of the Iraqi State in 1925; was present the Council of Referendum that was conducted by a delegation from The League of Nations which went to Kirkuk to assess whether Musol should be adjoined to Turkey. He had a firm stand against such a move, and there was a harsh exchanges between him and Hajj Abdullah ElYaquobi, which became a landmark in the national history.

    He was elected Member of Parliament in several sessions, representing Kirkuk, and took honourable stands in the defense of national matters, and a strong believer in the Kurdish national rights, struggling for achieving them. In 1929 he submitted, together with the Kurdish M.P.s Mohamed AlMofti of Musol, Jamal Baban of Erbil, Mohamed Hajj Hussain of Kirkuk, and Saif Allah Khanadan of Sulaimania, a memorandum to the then Prime Minister Abdul Mohsin AlSadoon demanding implementation of the recommendation of the League of Nations regarding the Kurdish case and the granting of independent self rule for Iraq Kurdistan Province. Accordingly, Mr. Nori AlBarzenji, uncle of Mr. Foad Arif, was appointed Inspector General in the Kurdish area, with H.O. in Kirkuk in1930. In the same year hey presented another memo to the British High Commissioner in Iraq demanding granting the national rights of the Kurdish people. (See AlZyan periodical e.2755, dt. 14 July 1930)

    Mohamed Beg Jaff was a scholar and a writer, published many articles in a number of Kurdish newspapers and periodicals, several of which were in Razi Kirmanji, periodical published by the late Hussain Mokriani in Rawandooz in the years 1926-1934.

    Together with other Kurd nationalists, Mohamed Beg Jaff established a political party, Kurdistan Azadi Party (Kurdistan Freedom Party) in the late 20s of the last century. Amongst the founding members were:
